Located in the southeastern corner of Vermont, Windham county borders both Massachusetts to the south and New Hampshire to the east, just across the Connecticut River. Windham county is home to small rural communities as well as the bustling town of Brattleboro - Windham’s county seat. Recently, citizens of Brattleboro leapt at the opportunity to take on walk and bike issues in their lively downtown by forming the Brattleboro Coalition for Active Transportation. This committee is actively recruiting and engaging stakeholders who want to make Brattleboro a safe and accessible place for walking and biking.
Local Motion supports the efforts of local communities to make Windham County and its towns a safer place for walking and biking. We are working with the Brattleboro Coalition for Active Transportation to identify opportunities for engagement and growth. We have also worked with VTrans on a traffic calming project to clear congestion and slow down vehicular traffic in downtown Brattleboro.
To become more involved in making Windham County a safer place to walk and bike, consider getting involved by joining the Brattleboro Coalition for Active Transportation or starting by your own local walk/bike group. You could also host a free bicycling education event in your school or workplace.
