Summer by Rail Send-off Event

summer_by_rail.pngBurlington’s transportation community are holding a send-off party for Victoria
Principato and Caitlin Boyle--two college students who have found a unique summer
job. The pair from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., applied for and won the
coveted internship by describing their vision for an epic trip that will take them more
than 10,000 miles, to 22 cities and 10 states, via all modes of transportation including
train, bus, bike and even the Lake Champlain Ferry. Along the way, they will see North
America and write about their experiences at www.summerbyrail.com for the National
Association of Railroad Passengers. They will study how people get around in different
types of communities, from big cities to small towns. In Burlington, they will visit the
Burlington Bike Path, breweries, Church Street Market and other local attractions. The
Vermont Rail Action Network, bike advocacy group Local Motion and other
transportation officials will host the travelers for their two day visit to Burlington.
