Now in existence for over 13 years, the New School of Montpelier continues expand its programs and offerings to our community of unique learners. With the ongoing assistance provided by Local Motion, our students experience firsthand the pride associated with participation in a life-long, independent activity like bike riding.
At NSM we provide a safe and encouraging environment for students to gain life skills, and we often rely on the generosity of local community partners for support. With the Bike Smart program, our students and staff have opportunities to learn and practice skills essential for the safe operation of a bicycle across different settings.
Thanks to the Bike Smart program, one middle school student persevered to learn to ride independently around his hometown as well as access the library. We have a number of other students who were able to finally experience the joy of cycling when offered access via tandem bikes and adult trikes.
As both an educator and avid cyclist, I personally believe riding a bike is more than merely a youthful rite of passage; it's a long term endeavor that empowers individuals to make informed healthy choices and enjoy a lifetime of active fun! Local Motion enables us, as an active learning community, to help our students embark safely on their cycling journeys. Local Motion's generosity makes a continuous difference in our NSM community by aiding us in our commitment to help children.
