Intermediate (15-35 miles)

Mount Philo Bike 'n' Hike Loop (37 miles)

For those who like rolling hills and a stunning view, this ride is for you! Starting at Local Motion on the Burlington Waterfront, this ride takes you south on the bike path and up to the picturesque Spear Street. On Spear Street, the Adirondacks rise above Lake Champlain to the west, allowing for beautiful views on gentle hills. A right down Irish Hill Road followed by a left onto Mt. Philo Road will bring you straight to Mount Philo itself. Some may want to get off their bikes and walk up, some might brave the steep, one-mile ascent to the top of Philo for breathtaking views of the Champlain Valley. The way back starts on Mt. Philo Road and veers right on Hinesberg Road to Spear Street again. Follow Spear to the bike path and return the same way to Local Motion. Don't forget to snap some pictures and tell us at Local Motion about your ride!

Beach and Bridges Philo Loop (35 miles)

A scenic and enjoyable loop, the Beach and Bridges Philo Loop begins on Spear Street at Overlook Park. Beginning with a view like that can only make for a great ride! This ride begins by following Spear Street all the way to Monkton Road. Cyclists can get off their bikes and appreciate one of Vermont's many famous covered bridges, the Quinlan Bridge, where Spear and Monkton join. Veering right on Spear, cyclists will hang a right at Mt. Philo Road and head north until hanging a left on Hinesberg Road and over Route 2 where Hinesberg Road becomes Ferry Road. A right on Lake Road lets bikers catch a glimpse of Lake Champlain up close, and, after a left on Bostwick Road, they can even dip their feet in the water off of Beach Road. Continuing north on Bostwick, cyclists will cross Route 2 again, to Marsett and then Falls Roads. A climb up Irish Hill Road and a left on Dorset Street, and it's gently rolling hills again. Left on Barstow and right on Spear, and finishing at Overlook Park again makes for a challenging and beautiful ride.
