Local Motion's Trailside Center is a resource for residents and visitors alike.  Right on the trail, Local Motion's Trailside Center is a great place to start your bicycling adventure. Whether you're 6 or 60, we can set you up on a bike that's just your speed.

We rent hybrid and comfort bicycles especially suited for the trail's paved and unpaved sections. We also rent tandems, kid's bikes, trailers, and tag-a-longs.

Rentals are on a first come, first served basis. Local Motion members receive a 10% discount.
Rental proceeds support Local Motion's non-profit advocacy mission.

Governor Scott cut the ribbon on Friday June 29th, to officially reopen the Colchester Causeway.  Reconstruction of the storm damaged causeway is complete and it's beautiful. 

Bike Ferry Service is back!

We operate 7 days a week, 10am to 6:00pm, now thru Labor Day! Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Labor Day to Columbus Day. Call Local Motion for additional information at - 802-861-2700

 May, June, and September through October 8th: 10am-6pm weekdays, 9am-6pm on weekends

We're located on the Burlington Bike Path on the shores of Lake Champlain. Our Trailside Center is easy to find, and provides access to some of Burlington's most beautiful scenery.

From the South:

  • Take Route 7 North into Burlington
  • Route 7 will turn into Shelburne Street and Willard Street
  • Turn left onto Main Street (after Champlain College)
  • Follow Main Street until it dead ends at Union Station
  • Park at Union Station (for long term parking, see below)

From the West and North

  • Take Interstate 89 to exit 14-W (Route 2 West)
  • Continue straight 3-4 miles past the University of Vermont into downtown
  • Follow Main Street until it dead ends at Union Station
  • Park at Union Station (for long term parking, see below)


  • As you are traveling down Main Street, at the light immediately before Union Station, take a left on to Battery Street
  • At the next light, take a right onto King Street (towards ferry)
  • Immediately before the RR tracks, follow sign to the right for the parking garage
  • The garage fee is $2 per hour/$16 per day
