About Local Motion
Local Motion is Vermont's only statewide nonprofit advocate for walkable and bikeable communities. Learn more about who we are, how you can get involved, and how to get in touch with us below. For an overview of what we do, please visit the Our Work page.
Local Motion was founded in 1999 with a singular (and improbable) goal: to get people on bikes across the mouth of the Winooski River, where the Burlington Bike Path then came to an end. Since then, we have grown to become Vermont's statewide advocate for active transportation, vibrant communities, and safe streets. Our mission is simple: to bring walking and biking within reach for all Vermonters.
We know there is no one solution that will work for every community. That's why our work ranges from on-the-ground advocacy and community organizing and project-specific technical assistance to workshops and classes for all ages and bike-friendly resources for businesses and communities. Let us help you make your community a great place to walk and bike!
We are seeking an energetic individual for our Services Coordinator opening. This is a full-time (av. 32 hrs/wk) position that will coordinate our bike rental and ferry operations. Click here for full job description.
To apply, send your cover letter and resume to email@example.com. Position open until filled.
Local Motion volunteers literally make our work possible. They donate thousands of hours to the cause every year, and have a ton of fun along the way. You can be one of them!
Check out our many volunteer opportunities and join in the fun. Many volunteer jobs count for member-worker credit at City Market, so you can help out with a cause you believe in and get a discount on your groceries at the same time.

Stop by our office and visit if you're on Burlington's waterfront. It's at 1 Steele Street in Burlington, on the Lakeshore Bike Path just north of King Street. Give a call before you come on by to make sure we haven't headed out for a meeting (or a bike ride!).

How to find us:
Local Motion is located in the "Wing Building" on the Burlington Lakeshore Bike Path, between King and Main streets. Our primary entrance is on the bike path, not on the street. If you arrive by car, navigate to "Steele Street" and park in the garage at the end of the street and walk around to the other side of the corrugated metal building. If you arrive by bike or by foot, just come on down the bike path to our front door!
Local Motion's partners, funders, and sponsors are a major part of what makes our work possible. We work closely with government agencies, other nonprofits, philanthropic foundations, and businesses across the state, and new partners come onboard every day.
Many thanks to every one of these amazing organizations for supporting a walkable, bikeable Vermont! Please let them know how much you appreciate what they do.
