Located in Northwest Vermont, just across the Winooski River from Burlington, Winooski is at the heart of Chittenden County. Its award-winning “Smart Growth” downtown, beautiful Winooski River, and vibrant business sector make Winooski a very dynamic and exciting place to live and work. Winooski’s role as a designated Refugee Resettlement community makes it home to many diverse newcomers to our country. As the most multicultural community in the state, and with over 30 languages spoken by residents, Winooski offers a cultural richness that is unique in Vermont.
Winooski also offers a wide array of opportunities to get outside and run, walk, and bike. The Gilbrook and Casavant Natural Areas offer miles of trails for trail running and even some in-city mountain biking. Residents also have their very own bicycle shop in town, the Winooski Bicycle Shop.
Local Motion is supportive of local efforts to make Winooski an even better place to walk and bike. We have helped students at John F Kennedy Elementary School learn how to pedal with style and confidence through our Bike Smart trainings and encouraged adults to make two wheel transportation a part of their routine through our Everyday Bicycling workshops at Trudell and Winooski Parks.
To become more involved in making Winooski a safe and welcoming environment for walking and biking consider getting involved by helping to create a Winooski Walk/Bike community group.
