The Brattleboro Safe Streets Committee was initially formed in 2012 with the goal of taking action to enhance the safety of Brattleboro's streets, roads, and sidewalks for all users. The group has expanded, both in its work and coalition member participation since its creation, thus necessitating a name change in 2018. Hence, the Brattleboro Safe Streets Committee was renamed the Brattleboro Coalition for Active Transportation to reflect our growing advocacy for all things active transportation-related. BCAT is comprised of Safe Streets Project members, the Transportation Sub-committee of the Energy Committee of the Windham Regional Commission, VBike, Department of Health, 350.org, and the Brattleboro Bike Shop. Its mission is to work to promote safe, healthy, accessible transportation options for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We see tremendous social, environmental and economic value to our community in the normalization of active, non-automotive transportation.
