The Town of Essex features neighborhoods surrounded by trail-laced open spaces that make it easy to get outside and be active. Essex is home to a number of major employers and is connected to Burlington and other neighboring communities in Chittenden County via Green Mountain Transit.

Local Motion is supportive of local efforts to make Essex an even better place to walk and bike. We have provided technical assistance for Essex’s Town/Village Bicycle Pedestrian Plan, which assesses the existing network, and identifies and prioritizes future needs so that the Town and Village can pursue implementation opportunities as they arise. It also includes an innovative neighborhood network and commuter network to serve bicyclists with different levels of comfort. We've also encouraged adults at local businesses to make two wheel transportation a part of their routine through our Everyday Bicycling workshops.

To become involved in making Essex Town a better place to walk and bike, consider helping local school children learn to bike with style and confidence by bringing a Bike Smart training to town. Local Motion can also assist interested community members set up a local walk/bike advisory group capable of seizing every opportunity to make walking and biking safer.
