Add your name to help create a safer Colchester Ave

We, the undersigned, support the repurposing of the existing public right of way along Colchester Ave to make room for new and improved biking facilities. We call on the City of Burlington and Burlington Public Works Commission to support the repurposing of public space currently used for on-street parking to improve safety for those biking along this corridor.  We believe this is an appropriate and beneficial use of public space.

The Old East End Neighborhood Coalition supports making Colchester Ave safe for all users. Safe for people walking, for people on bicycles and for people driving vehicles. We support removing parking in order to better utilize public space on the street for all users. As residents of the neighborhood we want to make sure if there are any issues associated with parking removal that the residents concerns are addressed.

I teach in Winooski and used to bike to work but no longer feel safe biking to and from Winooski with the traffic on Colchester Ave. The terrible road work has made the situation worse as cars swerve to avoid potholes. I’d be biking year-round if I felt safe.

I’d like to see city and hospital buses forced to stay in their lanes. They regularly take more than their lane, rather than slow down and follow the speed limit. Even if it is so narrow that motor vehicles need to slow down lower than the speed limit, that is fine, it is safer than speeding and not staying in the proper lane.
