Located in the southeastern corner of Vermont, bordering the Connecticut River and New Hampshire, Windham county is home to small rural towns and the city of Brattleboro, Windham’s county seat. Recently, citizens of Brattleboro leapt at the opportunity to take on walk and bike issues in their lively downtown by forming the Brattleboro Safe Streets Committee. This committee is actively recruiting and engaging stakeholders who want to make Brattleboro a safe and accessible place for walking and biking.
Local Motion supports the efforts of local communities to make Windham County and its towns a safer place for walking and biking. We are working with the Brattleboro Safe Streets Committee to identify opportunities for engagement and growth. We have also worked with VTrans on a traffic calming project to clear congestion and slow down vehicular traffic in downtown Brattleboro.
To become more involved in making Windham County a safer place to walk and bike, consider getting involved by joining the Brattleboro Safe Streets Committee or starting your own local walk/bike. You could also host a bicycling education event in your school or workplace.
