Travel upstream to the falls of the La Platte River along a beautiful section of the La Platte River. The shallow stream offers great opportunities to spot Great Blue Herons, catfish in the river, and clams in the river bottom. Paddling downstream offers the opportunity to view large floodplain forests with majestic Silver Maples leaning over the La Platte River. Keep your eyes peeled for the abundant wildlife in this stretch of the La Platte River including ducks, osprey, owls, mink, river otter, bobcat, and black bears. An easy portage around log jams will be rewarded with a amazing journey through to Lake Champlain.

04/19/09 Drawn by abundant sunshine and warmer weather paddled Shelburne River for the first time. A couple hundred yards past second of two log jams kayak hit rocks. Turned around and paddled to Shelburne Bay Park/ Boat Ramp then back to Shelburne Road. What a wonderful trip winding through varied topography. Cliffs, forest to swamp.

Several other paddlers were on the water some of which were Great Blue Herons, Ducks, Turtles, and Geese.

Certainly a Must Paddle Again. Especially located. Close to town.
