We are pleased to offer you a great program of presentations and networking activities that you will not want to miss! You will come away from this meeting with a spring in your step from so many great ideas, new tools, and exciting resources! Our goal is to help you become an even more powerful champion for making your school and community a safer place for children to walk and bike.
This year, we’re also incorporating our Bike Smart program into the meeting. The Bike Smart program provides organizations with a 20’ trailer with 30+ kids’ bikes (in a full range of sizes), training materials, helmets, tools, support, and an excellent games-based curriculum; everything an instructor would need to teach children how to be confident, competent bicycle riders. Bike Smart is FREE to any Vermont organization that serves children in grades k-8 (aside from a nominal delivery fee). This means that attendees will also have opportunities to talk with peers and Bike Smart staff about making their school biking programs stronger and more successful.
We have tried hard to make this meeting as relevant as possible for you, with networking and partnership opportunities, useful information and resources, as well as ideas from peers and partners that will leave you energized and excited!
8:30-8:45 check in & eat
8:45-9:00 Introduction to the day
9:00-9:45 Tools to Enrich your Walk/Bike program
9:55-10:40 Building a Bikeable & Walkable Community
10:50-12:00 mini presentations
1:00-2:00 mini presentations
2:10-3:10 mini presentations
3:10-3:30 prizes & wrap up
These mini-presentations will feature community partners and school leaders who have been doing exciting things for making it possible for children to walk and bike in their communities. These presentations will include topics like: "how do I encourage students to walk and bike more," "how can I address issues with infrastructure that keep my students from being able to safely walk and bike to school," "how can I get community involvement in my programming" and "what resources are available to me to enhance my programming?" Each session will have two or three short presentations from our partners/schools, followed by a break-out session in smaller groups where people can ask our presenters questions, problem-solve issues and develop partnerships. This will be a great opportunity to hear about what your peers are doing state-wide!
And that’s not all! We’ve even got some great perks for folks who participate:
One lucky participant will win a Fuji hybrid bike!
- Three lucky participants will win 50 Bell helmets (shipped to the location of their choice—school/workplace) of whatever sizes they need—if you are a lucky winner, we’ll set you up with our order form!
- We’re debuting a “Walk & Bike to School” incentives kit for schools to use to motivate students to participate in your SRTS efforts. We should have your school’s kit ready for you to pick up when you come to the meeting!
