Burlington_Bikepath_croppedAfter two years of hard work, the Island Line Trail re-opened in Spring 2013 after the record 2011 lake flooding!

Bring your own bike or rent bikes at our Trailside Center and explore Lake Champlain's shoreline! Riding the Burlington Bike Path/Island Line Trail is a world-class experience.

Bike Ferry service is back for the 2014 season. This year we will be offering daily service from June 14th to September 1st. Please see our Bike Ferry page for the full schedule.



Waterfront views of Lake Champlain from Burlington to Colchester. Numerous parks and natural areas along the way, a trail bridge over the mouth of the Winooski River, and Colchester's Causeway Park. Restrooms are available at Oakledge Park, Perkins Pier, the waterfront Boathouse, the Skate Park, North Beach, Leddy Beach, Charlie's Boathouse and Airport Park.

Uses: Cross Country Skiing Inline Skating Paved Biking Walking

Amenities: Restroom

Length: 12.5 miles

Surface: The southern 8 miles are paved.  The northern 5 miles have a crushed stone surface.

Trail Conditions: The 5 miles of trail in Colchester at the north end of the trail have a crushed stone surface and are not recommended for road bikes with narrow tires.

Parking ($5 in summer), restrooms, swimming, snackbar, camping


Leddy Park
(290 Leddy Park Rd, Burlington)

Parking ($5 in summer), restrooms, swimming


Airport Park
(201 Colchester Point Rd, Colchester)

Parking (free), restrooms, Log Schoolhouse Information Center and Museum


Trail Tips

  • Ride, walk and skate on the right side of the path
  • Obey all traffic laws and signs, use hand signals to turn
  • Wear a helmet and other protective safety gear
  • Ring bell or say "passing on your left" when passing
  • Be prepared for unpredictable or severe weather on the Causeway
  • Ride single file on road
Please remember, trails and roads must be shared by many different users. There is no substitute for common courtesy.
