The Burlington Public Works Commission voted in March to approve two important projects:
Vermont's first on-street bicycle parking: With more people biking to Outdoor Gear Exchange, New Moon Café and other nearby retailers, the City plans to install bike racks on Cherry Street this June. Car parking spaces will be reconfigured to make room – but no parking will be lost. See a diagram of the proposed bike rack . This year the on-road bike racks will be dismantled in winter so that plowing isn't obstructed. Ultimately, Public Works may build out the sidewalk to make this permanent. Sidewalk on upper Cliff Street: Cliff Street's steepest section has never had a sidewalk, yet it is an important connection for children walking to Edmunds School. Sidewalk construction will start this summer and will be done in sections as Public Works' budget allows. Click here for more info, including the approved design alternatives, on DPW's website.
Both projects took significant effort from the City and Local Motion members. Well done!
