Healthy Community Design Webinar
January 11, 2012
9:00-10:00
This is an overview of the full day trainings that were held in November.
The way we build our communities and use our land affects our health – either positively or negatively.
The Vermont Department of Health's Fit and Healthy Vermonters Program is pleased to announce a special one hour webinar on Healthy Community Design – planning and designing communities to make it easier for people to live healthy lives.
The session will feature Heidi Klein, MSPH and the work underway in Vermont to engage community and public health advocates  in decisions and efforts to increase physical activity and create access to healthy foods. The session will:
· Describe the connections between public health and land use planning
· Outline four strategic areas to create increased infrastructure and access to physical activity and healthy foods: concentrated mixed used development; bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure; access to parks, recreation facilities and open space; and access to fresh and healthy foods
· Identify initial steps for engaging in community action and decision-making
