Help Paint the Bike Recycle Mural! |
|

Last fall, local artist Frank Gonzales started work on one of the biggest outdoor murals in Burlington. With the help of anyone willing to pick up a paintbrush, Frank laid out a colorful landscape of walkers, bikers, drivers, and kite flyers. The mural spans the back of the Good News Garage and Bike Recycle Vermont, and is now working its way over to the Very Merry Theater Company. Your help is needed to finish the mural!
Come join us at 664 Riverside Avenue (map) on Saturday mornings from 9am to 2pm for the next couple of weeks. Call Frank at 864-1888 to RSVP. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to have fun!

Local Motion is on track to provide bike skills training to nearly 500 kids this summer! Working with parks and recreation programs in Burlington, South Burlington, Essex Junction, Winooski and other partners, we are spending an average of four hours with each child on skills drills designed to make them confident and capable cyclists.
Here is what Gabbie Dandaneau, the director of Burlington Parks and Recreation's Champ Camp, had to say about her campers' experience:
I have to say that your incredible crew did amazing work. I never imagined that the kids who didn't have the confidence or skills to ride a bike would ALL be riding by the last day. I hope that this program expands because it was fun for all of us.
If your child could use intensive bike skills training, register them for a one-day workshop at the end of August. Our trainers work closely with each child to help them build their confidence and skills. Registration is only $40. For more information, please visit www.localmotion.org/best and click on the "register for August camps" link.
Thanks to the VT Agency of Transportation and Fletcher Allen Health Care for making the BEST program possible! Thanks also to Maaco of South Burlington, Ron Hernandez, Skirack, VBT Active Vacations, Danaher Floors, and the Chittenden County Transportation Authority for their support and assistance as well. |

Ride the Island Line Trail 14-miles along and across Lake Champlain! To make the ferry expansion sustainable, we must raise the suggested donation to $10 for a round trip, $6 round trip for Colchester and South Hero residents, kids 12 and under, and Local Motion members. If you have never been a member, you can purchase a Bike Ferry/Local Motion Membership Special, a one year membership and 3 ferry passes for the day of issue (issued only at the ferry). We'll need 5,500 people to ride the ferry to hit our goals, so please spread the word. 2010 Underwriting Sponsor: VBT Bicycling Vacations. Other sponsors include: Earl’s Cyclery & Fitness, Switchback, Old Spokes Home, Twincraft Soap, Paw Print & Mail and Marble Island Marina. Thank you Specialized and the Skirack for a recent $5,000 grant for the ferry. Read the recent Free Press story on the Bike Ferry.

Have You Ridden the Bike Ferry? |
|

It's been a glorious summer out on the Causeway and the Bike Ferry has been shuttling many happy riders. Have you been among them? Our staff has been collecting photos of ferry passengers and posting them to our Facebook page. Take a look here.
Haven't ridden the ferry yet? With just two weekends left, don't miss this opportunity! Fresh picked vegetables, delectable apples, maple creemees, and more await you in the Islands. We need five more big days of ridership to shoot for our goal for the season. The ferry will run Aug 28-29 and Sept 4-6 (including Labor Day) from 10am-6pm. We operate in the rain but not in severe weather. Please check the ferry status on our homepage or call 652-2453 for the latest.
A big thank-you to our 2010 Underwriting Sponsor, VBT Bicycling Vacations. Other sponsors include: Earl's Cyclery & Fitness, Switchback, Old Spokes Home, Twincraft Soap, Paw Print & Mail and Marble Island Marina. Thank you Specialized and the Skirack for a recent $5,000 grant for the ferry. |
