Great Ice in Grand Isle
Great Ice 2012: Schedule of Events

No snow means Great Ice!  Join the few Vermonters who cheer when the forecast says "no snow, again".  Friday night, Feb. 10th we kick it all off with a Christmas tree bonfire on the ice and chili cook-off at the North Hero House bar on the pier.  Saturday, there will be sled dog rides (only if there is some snow, so call ahead), and Sunday, free Nordic skating demos, wild skating tours of the lake, and a crazy 9-hole golf tournament on the bay. Top it off with a great Disney movie, Iron Will in the historic Community Hall.  Don't miss the Frozen Chosen Regatta, a race on the groomed oval pitting bikes against blades.  Win a quality mountain bike generously donated by Earl's Cyclery. 2012 Great Ice in Grand Isle

Ice Conditions on City Bay, North Hero:

February 3, 2012

The bay is frozen, a consistant 8" thick.  As of today, there's a dusting of snow over smooth ice, enough snow for Hero's Welcome to start up their grooming equipment.  The skating oval and the rink are beautiful!  Come rent some Nordic skates, or bring your own and skate for free.

The ice is in on City Bay!  There's miles of safe, smooth ice for free skating, sailing and biking - plus the grooming has begun on the skating oval and the hockey rink.   Right across the street is the cozy Hero's Welcome general store.  They have Nordic skates and X-C skis for rent, a great menu, and wi-fi, too.

Great Ice Out Raffle is starting soon! Guess when the ice will melt and WIN BIG! Tickets will be on sale at Keeler’s Bay, Hero’s Welcome, North Hero House and Harborside Harvest Market.

For weather updates call Hero’s Welcome – 372-4161, or the Islands Chamber – 372-8400.

Put on your thinking caps and build the wackiest self-propelled, ice-racing machine you can think of. The F-F-Frozen Chosen Regatta is back this year and competition is heating up!  In year's past, we've seen bikes with studs, bikes with front-mounted ice skates, and three wheel jalopies. We've even had a unicycle entered in the race! Start tinkering now to get your machine ready!  The fastest bikers go up against the fastest skaters!

All ages are welcome and racers can enter solo or in teams. Consider pulling a couple co-workers together for an event you won't soon forget! $20 entry fee benefits the North Hero Community Hall Restoration. Plenty of parking, hot food and beverages. Prizes in several categories.

GRAND PRIZE - A quality mountain bike from Earl's Cyclery!
