Local Motion and Lake Champlain Bikeways invite you on a great weekend of cycling, socializing, exploration, history and culinary delights – on the 2009 National Life Group VerMontreal Tour!
The enthusiasm for this fun ride keeps building, and interest has continued to grow from 36 riders the first year of the tour to just over 100 in 2008. Now with a new route along the New York State side of Lake Champlain plus a four-day tour option which offers more mileage. With the tour split into two groups for the first leg of the ride; we are able to increase the size again to accommodate a new group of enthusiastic cyclists and varied fitness levels.
On Thursday, June 4th and Friday, June 5th, groups of 40 and 60 cyclists respectively will embark on a fully supported tour from South Hero to Montreal. Once in Montreal, riders will participate in the City's famous Tour De L'Ile along with 30,000 other cyclists. Fine hotel stays, full breakfasts, support vans, nightlife, historical & culinary highlights and good company will make this year's trip a most memorable 400th Anniversary Year!
This year's adventure will offer public officials, community leaders and other interested cyclists the opportunity to explore the lake as seen by the French explorers and immersion in the culture of our Quebec neighbors. We will ride on Quebec's Green Route and the Champlain Bikeways -- one of Adventure Cyclist Magazine's Top Ten Bicycle Tours of 2009.
We welcome all cyclists who feel confident that they can ride 65 miles in a day (the distance of the first day for both groups – for riders on the four-day tour other days will be 50-60 miles; for the three-day tour, 30-40). While the tour's pace will be varied among riders, it will have a leisurely spirit. We have worked hard to develop a budget keeping within the constraints of last year but at the same time offering new routes, local foods, and surprise events. If you want to join us on this wonderful adventure and make your mark during Lake Champlain's Quadricentennial, please register promptly.
More information and registration is available on the links to the left. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope you'll come along!
Happy Trails!
