On November 5, VT Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition board president Judy Bond and Director Nancy Schulz presented the first VBPC bike/ped safety training to approximately 40 recruits at the Vermont Police Academy in Pittsford. The recruits were attentive and asked excellent questions. The VBPC hopes this training will be a jumping off point for many future presentations to members of Vermont's law enforcement community. In the photo, the recruits are watching a DVD which was shown during the program. Thanks to Mike Ruse of the DMV for his willingness to offer classroom time for this important purpose. |

On October 19, 2009, Local Motion collaborated with the Burlington Police Department and Champlain College on another "intersection action." The purpose was to educate motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists about safety on the Champlain campus, particularly the importance of using -- and yielding to pedestrians within -- crosswalks. (Just a week before, a Champlain student was hit by a motorist while crossing mid-block.)
CCTV Channel 17 was on hand to cover the action. They produced a four-minute clip that shows the team at work. Take a look and see what an intersection action is all about! |
