Local Motion offers a flexible, practical workplace wellness program for Vermont businesses that helps them promote bicycle commuting by employees. Through practical lunchtime workshops, on-the-street learning rides, and one-on-one coaching, we help employees develop the skills and the confidence they need to begin commuting by bike. We also work directly with employers to conduct a worksite assessment and develop a customized plan for making their business more bike commuter-friendly.
All of our workshop participants have access to low-cost bicycle gear including:
- bike lights
- bike bells
- reflective vests
- reflective leg bands
Any workshop with 10 or more participants will be eligible for an on-site raffle of an Ortlieb Pannier (MSRP: $80)

Sometimes biking to work is completely new or intimidating to employees. Our focus is on giving participants answers to all the questions that might be keeping them from getting back on a bike:
What do I do if my bike breaks down?
How can I make my bike comfortable to ride?
What should I carry with me?
And how do I keep from getting hit by a truck?
We offer both a one-hour basic workshop and a two-hour comprehensive workshop. Both workshops are highly interactive, with demonstrations of bikes and gear, step-by-step guidance on how to be a prepared rider, and tips for getting the most out of your bike. Prior to each workshop, Local Motion will work with the employer to canvass employees for questions and topics of concern, with the goal of building the workshop around the issues that are most of interest to registrants.
"Building Street Skills" learning rides
Some employees already have the basics down, and would like more practical training. We offer on-street training for people to practice riding on the road--tips and strategies for biking safely and well with traffic.
Winter Bike Commuting
Some employees are curious about taking the extra step to year-round commuting, but are intimidated by the cold and difficult road conditions in winter. We take the mystique out of riding in the winter. We cover topics like choosing a bike, identifying the best gear, what to wear, and how to handle the different road conditions in winter.
All workshops are FREE for Vermont organizations.
