The Cycle the City Refresh project is nearing completion and it is super exciting to see the results in the form of a suite of revised and cool new tools for the way-finding system. The project is made up of five way-finding components with new signs that incorporate a map and scannable QR [...]

In 2009, 802 Segways proposed guided Segway Tours on the Burlington Bike Path. A record 90 people commented on that blog post — and the responses were split 50/50 for and against having Segways on the path. The business proposal was pulled and the issue remained largely dormant. Now, Rick Sharp — one of the [...]

Where is that? What is it? Can I ride it now? Is it easy to follow? The Cycle the City route has been around for 15 years and is an awesome 10 mile clockwise loop that sees almost every sweet part of Burlington. Waterfront, Suburbs, Parks, Intervale, Old North End, UVM, Hill Section, Champlain College…you [...]

News update… We have embarked upon a process for refreshing the entire Cycle the City route with the support of JDK, Local Motion, BWBC, DPW and Parks and Rec. This refresh involves having JDK update the identity (logo, font, colors etc), the online presence through the Cycle the City page on Local Motions Website (http://www.localmotion.org/ctc/), [...]

On a gorgeous Saturday morning, 15 cyclists joined Local Motion Executive Director Chapin Spencer and Local Motion Board Member Luis Vivanco on a 10-mile historic tour of Burlington. It’s time. Over six years ago, the State of VT decided to create a 92-mile E/W trail across Vermont from Swanton to St. Johnsbury — but we’re still waiting. Senator Sanders secured over $5M of funding for the project years ago. Finally, the first phase of the project should receive its Act 250 permit in [...]

It is hard to imagine, but Burlington is losing one of our most passionate and skilled bike advocates to the sunny skies of California. Jon Griesser was an active Local Motion member and participant in the Burlington Walk-Bike Council, but the project that truly demonstrated Jon’s tireless commitment was the renovation of the Route 127 [...]

I joined 22 VT trail leaders at the Vermont Trails & Greenways Council’s winter meeting on January 26th. We took three notable steps: 1) Declared support for the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail This stunning 93-mile trail in the making will stretch from Swanton to St. Johnsbury – but it has been stuck in Act 250 [...]

Local Motion gives a big ‘shout out’ to our volunteer friends in Milton. The members of the Ad Hoc Recreation Pathways Committee have worked for three years to identify and prioritize potential trails in their community. They will be presenting their first priority to the Milton Planning Commission in January 2012. Milton has embarked on [...]
