On a gorgeous Saturday morning, 15 cyclists joined Local Motion Executive Director Chapin Spencer and Local Motion Board Member Luis Vivanco on a 10-mile historic tour of Burlington. The route followed the 10-mile Cycle the City loop developed by Local Motion, the City of Burlington and Lake Champlain Bikeways in 1998. The route was recently re-stenciled thanks to Nic Anderson…and he’s planning on updating the printed maps with help from JDK.
Co-sponsored by the Old Spokes Home, the tour offered area residents an opportunity to explore Burlington’s hidden and not-so-hidden treasurers. Luis has been researching Burlington’s bicycle history and is preparing to write a book on the topic with Old Spokes Home owner Glenn Eames. Below, Luis pedals through Burlington’s Intervale.
The free event was part of Bike/Walk Month activities — organized by Local Motion and funded in part by the City of Burlington’s Department of Public Works. If you would like a guided tour of Burlington’s bicycle history, contact Local Motion’s Outreach & Training Coordinator Mary Catherine.
