Vermont Healthy But Not Tops in Key Areas
Posted by Chapin on Apr 17 2011
LM Member George Thabault pointed us to this great Kaiser Family Foundation website that shows the rankings of all 50 states on key health indicators. While Vermont is sometimes recognized as being the healthiest state, we’re not at the top on a number of important rankings such as:
- High school student participation in physical activity: 17th
- Percentage of Children (10-17) who are overweight or obese: 9th
- Percentage of adults who are overweight or obese: 6th
- Per capita deaths due to heart disease: 4th
Yes, Vermont scores better in other health criteria, but we need to do a better job of getting all residents active. It’s time to develop comprehensive strategies to help get Vermonters moving. Local Motion is proud to be working on these important areas. Contact us to get involved!
