While the recent snow has covered up the ice on Vermont’s lakes, there will more opportunities to skate soon. Up on Cary Bay in North Hero, for example, they plow a great skating track. Try it out during the Great Ice in Grand Isle celebration for the next three weekends. There are skate rentals at Hero’s Welcome.
Want to skate other places? Find the best ice on Lake Champlain and other Vermont lakes through this listserve. It’s also a good place to find a skating buddy or two.
Skating on Vermont’s lakes can be a fun and safe activity…as long as you are smart. Go in groups, bring a few critical pieces of gear and please follow a few simple guidelines.
Thanks to Jaime Hess of Nordic Skater for helping to get people excited to skate on Vermont’s lakes!
