In late January, the VT Agency of Transportation announced that Local Motion’s Bike Ferry was awarded its third $300,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant!

This is a major step forward for our proposed $1.3 million causeway rehabilitation and Bike Ferry improvement project.  We now have two-thirds of the funds raised.  A private ‘Bike Ferry Campaign’ will likely be launched later this year that will seek to secure the remaining funds.

The Bike Ferry closes the final 200′ gap in the spectacular 14-mile Island Line Trail.  We cannot expand the popular but limited Bike Ferry service without improvements.  Our current boats are not suited for daily operation.  We have no wave attenuators (floating breakwaters) to safely board passengers in high wave conditions.

With the improvements, we expect to run the ferry 70+ days a season and board over 26,000 passengers.
