Vermont forests were hard hit after last Wednesday’s windstorm. Many people were left without power and otherwise sturdy stands of trees were toppled in some areas. We’ve received reports from a couple trail managers that windblown trees are now blocking access to their trails. John Hamerslough of the Richmond Trails Committee says that 30-40 trees are down along the Warren & Ruth Beeken River Shore Trail. The Camels Hump Nordic Ski Area has also been hit hard, and volunteers are scrambling to get things cleaned up before too much more snow comes down. What other trails have been hit?

Volunteers are needed to help! Contact your local trail manager to see if they need help. Always check with them before doing any major clearing. If you are in Richmond, contact John Hamerslough at hamerslo@gmavt.net to help. If you are in Huntington, contact Dave Brautigam at davebrautigam@gmavt.net. Don’t know your trail manager? Search for any trail at http://trailfinder.info and find contact info along the righthand side.
