Jon Griesser, Volunteer Project Coordinator, sent this to me today:
Grand Opening November 13th for the Newly Renovated Southern Entrance!
There has been considerable progress made recently at the entrance to the ONE recreation path. The view corridor has been created, the area has been paved, the water fountain is ready to go in, the benches have been installed, the handicapped access has been remedied, old fencing has been removed, and new fencing has been installed. But perhaps most importantly, people are stopping at the entrance in amazement – at how good it looks and how much of an improvement it is from the past!
We should see the remainder of the project finished in October – including installation of the kiosk with interpretive material and wayfinding signage.
So, that means that it is time to celebrate this three year effort that has involved numerous volunteers and many city departments and advocacy organizations. An official grand opening of the new and improved entrance to the ONE recreation path (future name TBD) will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 10am to 12:30 ish. Final details are being determined, but the general flow of the mornings events is:
10 – 10:30 – speakers and ribbon-cutting
10:30 – 11:15 – group bike ride/walk on the path
11:15 – 12:30 ish – community pot luck and celebration
There will be educational and outreach material provided during the entire event. Put on your hats and sweaters and come celebrate with us!
