I almost didn’t believe this story at first: local policeman, Ben Kaufman, plans to make 575 laps around the Winooski traffic circle by bicycle. That’s 100 miles!
Why would someone embark on such a seemingly crazy ride? His motives are noble: to raise $10,000 for cancer awareness. And he’s not alone: hundreds of folks around the world take the so called “100 Miles to Nowhere” challenge. WCAX had this quote from Ben:
“The important thing to me here is not only am I raising money but I’m trying to raise awareness for the Lance Armstrong Foundation,” Kaufman said. I am doing it because I’ve got the backing of my friends, I’ve got the backing of all the people who have filled out these yellow flags. It’s a huge inspiration to see this stuff and it pushes me through.” (WCAX)
Ben’s ride is taking place this Saturday, 4/17. He’ll start his 575 lap journey at 6am. Everyone should stop by to root him on!
