sammy-d-stopped-bySome people never stop exploring. This week, we saw Samuel de Champlain himself riding down the bikepath! He said he was in town for the Burlington International Waterfront Festival, all part of the region-wide Quadricentennial celebration of the lake that now bears his name. He’s flattered.

Sammy D, an avid cartographer, came by the shop because he heard we had maps. When we told him about our online Trail Finder, we could tell he was a little confused by the Internet part. To explain, we showed him our new touch-screen kiosk, which made him chuckle. “That is an awfully heavy map,” he said. “And besides, there is no land bridge between here and the islands to the north!”

You can see Sammy D for yourself tomorrow (Sat 7/11) in a festive parade down Main Street starting at 5pm. I hear he’ll be riding his bike. Also be sure to check out the many other Quad events happening through 7/14. You are sure to learn a thing or two about our French-Canadian and indigenous heritage.
