Park It Like A Car – er – Bike

Cherry St On-Street Bike Parking1Downtown Burlington now has a sweet new bike parking facility on Cherry Street. Placed directly on the street and taking up a full parking spot*, this rack is appropriately shaped like an automobile. The rack has room for at least 20 bikes, so visitors to downtown shops like the Outdoor Gear Exchange, American Apparel, or Penny Cluse won’t have to hunt for parking anymore. My favorite part about the rack, besides its bright blue finish and faux front grill, is that it provides an effective barrier between cars on the street and the bikes.

We first wrote about this back in April, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Big kudos go to Nicole Losch and the Department of Public Works for making this bike parking improvement a reality.

* Don’t worry, no car parking spaces were lost in the installation of this bike rack. The spots were shuffled to make room.

Wow – that bike rack looks amaaazing! only if there were bike racks at all in NZ. Perhaps if people know they can look this cool and be just part of the 'normal' transportation system they would reconsider.

Good job to the City of Burlington, Local Motion, and all those cycling champions out there!
