Richmond Ferry in July 4 Parade

Thousands cheered as the Richmond Ferry was drawn through the village streets for the town’s popular July 4th parade.  It was the final chapter of this unique project.  Many shouted thanks by name to captains Brian and Scudder — showing how the ferry had become a vital part of the town for 35 days in May and June.  Ten volunteers waived from on board and beside the boat as it made its way along the route.

The pedestrian ferry provided service across the Winooski River while the Bridge Street bridge was closed for rehabilitation.   It boarded 10,398 passengers during 35 days of service — about 300 people a day.  Thanks to OneRichmond, Richmond Area Business Association, Reap Construction, Liberty Head Post & Beam, USDA, CCMPO, VTrans, Richmond Selectboard, the Bressor family, and the residents of Richmond!
